Health classes explained

Rate classes—Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard—explain what each category means and the factors that place you into one.

Carriers base rates on your rate class. While names differ across carriers, the concept is the same: people grouped by similar risk profiles pay similar rates.

What underwriters look at

Carriers use age, health, medical history, lifestyle, job risk, medications and driving record to set your class. Your class determines your rate. Different carriers may put you in a better class, making comparison worthwhile.

How to use the quote tool

When asked about your health, pick the one that fits: Excellent = Preferred Plus, Very Good = Preferred, Good = Standard Plus, Fair or Yes, taking medication = Standard.

Susman Insurance Agency knows which carriers are more lenient with specific health histories, which is often more valuable than comparing headline rates.
