Travis Air Force Base
A U.S. Air Force installation located three miles east of Fairfield, established in 1942 and known as the "Gateway to the Pacific" for handling the largest volume of military cargo and passenger traffic of any U.S. air terminal.
Travis Air Force Base was originally built in 1942 as Fairfield-Suisun Army Air Base and renamed in 1951 to honor Brigadier General Robert F. Travis. The base serves as home to the 60th Air Mobility Wing under Air Mobility Command, operating strategic airlift and aerial refueling missions that move personnel and supplies across the Pacific.
As the single largest employer in Solano County, Travis Air Force Base brings sustained economic activity to Fairfield and the surrounding region. The base operates a fleet of aircraft including C-5 Galaxy cargo planes and KC-46 Pegasus tanker aircraft, supporting military operations on a global scale. Many military families have chosen Fairfield as their home base, whether during active duty or in retirement.
